Eduardo Arévalo, sports director of Calahorra, has revealed in an interview with the La Rioja media 'nine-four' what will be the exact format of the new Second Division B of the 2020-21 season. So far, it had been openly said that there would be a division of the five groups, starting later than expected by the spread of the pandemic. However, the specific model that decided the promotions to LaLiga SmartBank, the new Second Division B Pro and the descents to Third had not been leaked.
According to the testimony of the Calahorra president, the five groups of twenty participants of the Second Division B will be divided into two subgroups of ten, which will have 18 regular phase days. Once that section of the season ends, three other subgroups will be made, in order to decide the fate of each of the clubs. This would be the three new subgroups:
–Subgroup of promotion to Second. It would be made up of the first three of each of the ten subgroups created at the beginning. In other words, it would be made up of a total of 30 clubs, which would be the candidates to go up to LaLiga SmartBank. The top four in this subgroup, in an undisclosed format by Arévalo, would ascend. The remaining 26, along with the four declines of the Second Division, would form the Second B Pro.
–Subgroup for promotion to Second B Pro. The fourth, fifth and sixth classified of the ten initial subgroups would form this new subgroup, which would have the highest award for promotion to the new category. Of the thirty that will form it, only ten would have a place in the Second B Pro, along with the 26 losers of the promotion subgroup and the four descendants of the Second. Thus, the new bronze division would definitively conform, with its 40 assigned places.
–Subgroup of permanence in Second Division B. The seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth of each of the ten subgroups would stake their stay one more year in the category. Of course, it would be a kind of descent for them, since, whatever happens, they would be a division below the one that started the season. Of the 40, it remains to be confirmed how many would fall to Hell in Third.
After revealing the format, Eduardo Arévalo spoke of the difficulty they will have to face in the face of the changes: “The start is going to be vital, in less than one lap it will be decided if we fight for the ascent or the descent. We want to get as close as possible to that Pro League, starting from the primary basis of saving ourselves. There are some clubs that we cannot compete financially against. In the end, it was seen that sooner or later it was going to come out, we believe that in Second B there is a lot of difference between the former and the others at the budget level“
