Caitlin Clark of Iowa is second all-time in points scored.

While playing at Northwestern, Iowa star Caitlin Clark moved into second spot on the NCAA women’s highest points list. This is the latest achievement in a long line of important events for Clark.

Clark passed Kelsey Mitchell (3,402) in a layup with 4:58 left within the second quarter. Mitchell was the Naismith female college player for the year for the 2022–23 season.

Before Wednesday’s game, she was fourth all-time in points scored, four behind Jackie Stiles of Missouri State and thirteen behind Mitchell. With her second 3-indicator of the first quarter, Clark passed Stiles as the player with the most points.

Clark finished with 35 points, which was her fifth straight 30-point game and the longest streak of her career. She also passed Mitchell to become the Big Ten’s all-time leading scorer.

Clark, who now has 3,424 career points, will try to beat Washington’s Kelsey Plum’s record of 3,527 points, which is the NCAA’s record.

Clark also grabbed six rebounds, stole two balls, and blocked one. Even though she only made 3 of 12 3-point shots, she made all 10 in her free throws in 32 minutes. The third-ranked Hawkeyes beat them 110–74.

Clark, a senior in West Des Moines, Iowa, has done a lot of great things. He now holds the records for most points, assists, and 3-pointers made in Iowa.

The Big Ten record for most made field goals is held by Ohio the State’s Jantel Lavender. She is on track to break that record as well.

At Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena, the first-ever sold-out women’s basketball game between Clark and Iowa, the national runner-up in 2023, was seen by a crowd of over 3,000 people. Crowds have been at all-time highs for her and the Hawkeyes at home and away games this season.

Wednesday night, Iowa star Caitlin Clark moved into second place on the NCAA women’s basketball career scoring list. This was another example of why she is one of the best women’s basketball players in the world.

Before Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell, Clark had scored 3,403 points, but an Iowa layup with 4:58 left in the subsequent quarter put her over the top. The Hawkeyes went on to beat Northwestern 110–74.

In addition to being Clark’s 14th point of the game, the basket came after she had moved up to third place with a 3-pointer with 2:04 remaining in the first quarter.

She scored 35 points, made 11 of 22 shots, and had 10 assists by the end of the game. I need all of them to do it. I can’t do it unless Lisa Bluder, my coach, gives me the offense keys.

“You don’t think concerning it too much,” Clark told Peacock about the record after the game. “Every night you just go outside, play your game, and have fun.”

I’m just thankful that I can do it for these girls, as I already said. I love them so much. There have been a lot of outstanding teammates for me during my time here, and these coaches set me up to succeed.

Caitlin Clark is now second on the Division I women’s historic scoring list, one spot behind Kelsey Plum, who used to play for Washington. It’s kind of like this.

The star player from Iowa scored 35 points, had 10 assists, and grabbed six rebounds during the No. 3 Hawkeyes’ 110–74 win over Nu on Wednesday night.

Clark made a layup with 4:58 left at the start of the half to give her 14 points and 3,403 career points.

This put her ahead of Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell (3,402) and behind Missouri State’s Jackie Stiles (3,393) over third place, who she passed with a 3-pointer with 2:04 left within the first quarter.

With 3,527 points, Kelsey Plum, who played for Washington and was a star from 2013 to 2017, is the top scorer for women. The men’s leader is Pete Maravich of LSU, who scored 3,667 points throughout his career.

Clark passed Mitchell to become the Big Ten Conference’s all-time leader in points scored. She had no fewer than 30 points in 13 games this season.

There were a lot of Iowa fans and Clark shirts in the Welsh-Ryan Arena crowd, which was sold out. The senior guard made 11 of 22 shots from the court and 10 of 10 free throws.
