Cabrera: “The derby is the game we all want to win”

One of the best news of Espanyol's return to Primera is that Barcelona will have a derby once again. A special, historical meeting, desired by both teams and that marks the footballers who manage to participate in it, as is the case of Leandro Cabrera, who only played one in the 2019-20 season at the Camp Nou but now burns with the desire to repeat the experience. “It is the game that we all want to win”, It started on the program Quiero Fútbol (Radio Sport 890) on ESPN.

The Uruguayan central defender, who is immersed in the return to training of Vicente Moreno's team, considers that “Barça is the rival of a lifetime, they live in a special way”. Despite having barely been in Barcelona and Espanyol for a year and a half, Cabrera has taken over the city and the dressing room. Not only is he one of the leaders, but he was chosen captain, a condition that suits him like a glove: “Espanyol is a very demanding club. It is true that within the city the team that eats everything is Barcelona, but we really feel the support of our people.”

The central defender has already commented on it several times, who took that step back to gain momentum when he decided to accept the proposal of bottom player Espanyol to leave the European Getafe: “It seemed difficult to have reached Espanyol, but in the end everything went well and I can say that it was the right decision. Now we want to have stability in First Division and from there each one offers their best version, in my case recovering the level of Getafe or improving it“.

Cabrera understands the difference in category and that this can modify Espanyol's behavior in the game, which will take the games to other contexts. “First is more complex: surely we will not have the possibility of being such protagonists, but we do not want to lose our identity and we will try to highlight all the good we have done“, assessed a footballer who focuses on” finishing my career in Europe, if everything goes well I would like that to happen.
