Luis de la Fuente has directed the lower categories in the Royal Spanish Football Federation since 2013. In 2018 he took charge of the Under-21 National Team.
“I have to think that it is the best for me and for the team,” said the coach after the defeat against Morocco. Luis Enrique was “satisfied” with his team, despite the elimination and despite a frustrating penalty shootout against the Moroccan team. He also confessed that although he would continue “all his life” leading the team, he has to think “what is best for the team.”
The Asturian is thanking the footballers for the work done throughout the World Cup: “I am very happy with the profile of players I have. I would not change them for any other, I go with them to the death. If there is someone responsible, it is me”, he said .
The Spanish team said goodbye to the World Cup in the round of 16 in a fateful outcome after a penalty shootout in which they missed three shots (out of three) in an even duel against Morocco.
