Buitrago wins and Landa gets on the provisional Giro podium

BARCELONA, 25 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The cyclist Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain-Victorious) has won the seventeenth stage of the Giro d’Italia, disputed between Ponte di Legno and Lavarone over 168 kilometers, with the Colombian attacking from the breakaway to certify his long-awaited and persecuted victory in this ‘Corsa rosa’ who continues to lead Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers) despite attacks from Mikel Landa (Bahrain-Victorious).

Again there were several races within the stage. In the lead, the large breakaway of 25 runners gave rise to a beautiful battle of several phases, Buitrago being the strongest due to his insistence to, in Lavarone, shake off the bad drink of his second place in Cogne two stages earlier.

On the other hand, there was a fight for the general classification. While Carapaz and Hindley, first and second and separated by just 3 seconds, watched each other without attacking, the pepper was put by Mikel Landa and his partner Wout Poels.

Landa could not let go of the ‘pink jersey’ nor the Australian from BORA-hansgrohe, but his tenacity gave Bahrain another joy as the Basque climbed to third place in the provisional general classification, beating Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates). At the finish line, yes, Landa lost steam and 4 seconds compared to the first two in the general classification.
