MADRID 4 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The fifth day of the Xacobeo Trophy resumed action this Friday in the Pontevedra estuary with the “Bribon” holding on at the head of the classification in Classics and the “Oiva” taking command of the table in the Open category before the final assault.

The event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo (RCNS) and which decides the new 6 Meter European champions completed two more races this Friday at the Sanxenxo regatta field, leaving the classification for judgment and with two leaders who They aspire to certify the continental title tomorrow: “Bribon” in the Classic division and the Finnish “Oiva” in Open.

After a blank Thursday, the wind, from the west and with about seven knots of intensity, facilitated the completion of a total of two tests that allowed the discard to come into play. The “Aida” by Francisco Botas, which features Javier de la Gándara on the reed, was without a doubt the great protagonist of the day.

The A Coruña team had no rival and was awarded two brilliant first places that allowed it to enter the Top 5 overall, placing fourth, three points behind third. At the top of the table, the “Bribon” of King Juan Carlos resists with the provisional first position after adding an eighth this Friday – a partial that becomes his discard – and a fourth.

The fight to win their fourth consecutive continental title remains very tight, and the Finnish “Astree III” of Ossi Paija managed to cut points and is only one behind Don Juan Carlos’s crew after signing two second places.

Furthermore, as expected, the entry into play of the discard caused a new turnaround in the Open general standings, with a new leader and several teams joining the battle for the continental podium. The Swiss “Momo” by Dieter Schoen and the Greek “Aera” by Nick and Fotis Lykiardopulo shared the two partial victories of the day. Schoen’s men also added a second place and made a place for themselves in the Top 5 overall, placing themselves in fourth position tied with third.

The one that got the best profit of the day, however, was the Finnish “Oiva” of Henrik Andersin. With a second and a third scored – and thanks to discarding a seventh place from the previous day – Andersin’s crew managed to take the lead in the general classification with a five-point advantage over the British “Battlecry” of Jeremy Thorp, who was promoted from fifth to second position after sealing two fifths. The previous leader, the Swiss “Junior” of Muller Rainer, fell to third place.

The report for Saturday is very different from that of the last two days. According to forecasts, everything indicates that the wind will blow strongly from this early morning and the gusts could exceed 30 knots in intensity during the morning.
