Brazilian surfer Márcio Freire drowned in Nazaré

MADRID, 6 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Brazilian surfer Márcio Freire, 47, drowned last Thursday while surfing at Praia do Norte, in Nazaré (Portugal).

Freire, a specialist in big waves and one of the well-known ‘Mad Dogs’ -famous for surfing the giant wave ‘Jaws’ in Hawaii-, suffered an accident “that left him lifeless”, according to the Portuguese town council, to the suffer a ‘wipeout’ -fall from the board- and be swallowed by the waves.

The surfers who were in the water helped him, but the resuscitation maneuvers carried out by the emergency services were in vain and they could only confirm his death.
