Brazil, without Ederson against Chile and Bolivia

Ederson, Manchester City goalkeeper, was dismissed from the Brazilian team on Monday due to gastroenteritis, which means he will miss the last two games of the South American qualifiers for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, against Chile and Bolivia. The ‘canarinha’ is already classified.

The Brazil coach, Adenor Leonardo Bachi ‘Tite’, called Éverson, Atlético Mineiro’s starting goalkeeper, instead, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in a note.

Everson will only join Brazil’s camp in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, when he is scheduled to play for his club against Caldense in the semifinals of the Campeonato Mineiro, the regional tournament that brings together the best teams in the state of Minas Gerais.

Ederson’s withdrawal leaves Alisson Becker, from Liverpool, as Brazil’s first goalkeeper for these last two days of the qualifiers for Qatar 2022, which will be inconsequential for the five-time world champion, since she is already mathematically classified.

In this sense, Tite could choose to rotate the team and give a chance to Weverton, from Palmeiras, or to Éverson himself, either on Thursday against Chile in the Maracanã or five days later against Bolivia, in La Paz.

Added to Ederson’s loss are the well-known defenders Gabriel Magalhaes, an English Arsenal footballer who was replaced by Felipe, from Atlético de Madrid; and attacker Raphinha, from Leeds United, who tested positive for coronavirus.

Tite’s side, who have already secured their ticket to Qatar, are the undefeated leader of the South American qualifiers with 39 points and an almost perfect balance of twelve wins and three draws.

The match against Argentina, also classified, which was suspended a few minutes after starting in September last year, after several Albiceleste players failed to comply with the health protocol against Covid, is still pending completion, by order of FIFA.
