Braves Sign David Fletcher and Max Stassi

The Braves and Angels are organizing a trade of players to switch up their roles. Atlanta announced that minor league first baseman Ian White and reliever Tyler Thomas were traded for infielder David Fletcher & catcher Max Stassi.

With no need for catchers, it’s a strange match for the Braves. Sean Murphy is the starting quarterback for Atlanta, and Travis d’Arnaud was re-signed to a $8 million contract to serve as his backup. Stassi provides them with a third skilled, but rather expensive, catcher.

Mark Bowman among tweets that the Dodgers intend to trade Stassi to another team because it seems improbable that they would want to carry the three—none of whom can be relegated to the lower minors.

Three players that Atlanta had acquired in prior offseason trades have already been transferred.

As part of the trade that brought in Jarred Kelenic, the Braves transferred right-hander Jackson Kowar, who they had acquired with the Royals as a substitute for Kyle Wright, to the Seattle Mariners.

The Braves agreed to assume salary on the left-handers Marco Gonzales as well as White’s underwater contracts as part of the Kelenic trade.

With this trade with the Angels, the Braves have already moved White away, while the Pirates traded Gonzales on Tuesday for a meager return.

They will now attempt to transfer Stassi, who has a $7 million deal for the upcoming season.

Additionally, he has a $7.5MM team option to use for the 2025 campaign, with a $500K buyout guaranteed. He had inked an extension with the Halos following a combined 2020–21 campaign of.250/.333/.452.

That agreement didn’t function as the company had planned. Stassi saw a decline to a.180/.267/.303 line in 2022 with a career-high 375 plate appearances.

The Milwaukee Brewers now have 36 players on their 40-man roster, while the Halos will have 39 after Luis García and Adam Cimber’s one-year free agent contracts are finalized.

On Friday night, the NL East champion Atlanta Braves carried on with their hectic offseason.

On ESPN, the Braves sent minor league lefty Tyler Thomas and first baseman Evan White to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder David Fletcher & catcher Max Stassi. The deal hasn’t been disclosed by either team.

White was acquired by Atlanta last week in a money dump deal with the Seattle Mariners, in addition to Jarred Kelenic and Marco Gonzales.

Since then, Gonzales has been traded by the Pittsburgh Pirates, while White is currently on his way to Anaheim. Kelenic is still a Braves player.

On Friday night, the NL East champions Atlanta Braves carried on with their hectic offseason.

According to ESPN, the Braves sent minor league lefty Tyler Thomas and first baseman Evan White to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for infielder David Fletcher plus catcher Max Stassi. The deal hasn’t been disclosed by either team.

White was acquired by Atlanta last week in a money dump deal with the Seattle Mariners, in addition to Jarred Kelenic as well as Marco Gonzales.

Since then, Gonzales has been traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates, while White is currently on his way to Anaheim. Kelenic is still a Braves player.

Due to a family medical situation and a left thigh strain sustained during spring training, Max Stassi, 32, was unable to compete in the current season.

During his ten-year tenure with the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels, Stassi has amassed a.212 batting average, 41 home runs, and 128 RBIs.

His compensation for the upcoming season is $7 million, with a team option for 2025, owed to the organization.

After spending the previous two seasons via the minor levels, 27-year-old Evan White was just acquired by the Braves from Seattle is a deal.

as 2019, White, who won a Gold Glove as first base during the postponed 2020 season, signed a $24 million, six-year contract.

He will owe $7 million the next year and $8 million in 2025. A $2 million buyout is also available for a 2026 club option.

The Braves will pay Fletcher less than they would have paid White, whose future is uncertain after missing the previous two seasons due to hip operations. Fletcher will assume the utility infield role.

Like Marco Gonzales, whom the Pirates acquired two days after acquiring him and White from the Mariners as a swap for Kelenic, Stassi is probably going to be moved.

In order to acquire Kelenic, the Braves were forced to take on the contracts held by White, who was due $17 million over the two years that follow, and Gonzales, who was owed $12.5 million during the last year of his contract.

The Pirates took up an undisclosed amount of Gonzales’ expenses. The angels will cover all of White’s expenses.

That means that for just under seven million next year, the Braves will get a defensively competent utility shortstop and a left fielder with a lot of upside.

Fletcher is expected to earn $6 million, while Kelenic’s final season salary before he becomes eligible for wage arbitration will be roughly $800,000.

Once Stassi is traded, the true cost of Fletcher and Kelenic will be known, as will the amount of money the Braves spent in both the anticipated trade and the one that took place that sent Gonzales to Pittsburgh.
