Bouzas and Sorribes appear with triumph in the US Open

Bucsa was eliminated by Italian veteran Errani

MADRID, 28 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis players Jessica Bouzas and Sara Sorribes reached the round of 32 of the US Open, the fourth Grand Slam of the year and which is being played on hard court, on Wednesday, early in the morning in Spain, after their respective victories over the Croatian Petra Martic and the American Alexa Noel, while the also Spanish Cristina Bucsa was eliminated by the Italian Sara Errani.

At Flushing Meadows (New York, USA), Bucsa lost 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 to the veteran Errani after two hours and three minutes of play. Right from the start, the Cantabrian went 15-40 up and took advantage of her first break opportunity, immediately consolidating her advantage (0-2).

From the fifth game onwards, a series of successive breaks kept Bucsa ahead on the scoreboard and, with that, she sealed the first set in her favour. However, her rival changed completely in the following set, excelling with her serve and scoring break points with confidence until she gave the Spanish player a ‘donut’.

In the third and final set, Bucsa saved several break opportunities that Errani had. But in the fifth game and also in the seventh, the Italian broke both of her opponent’s serves and took a lead that she knew how to manage, thus sealing the victory definitively.

But after this disappointment, the women’s singles draw saw two positive pieces of news for the Spanish team. In just over an hour of play, the Pontevedra-born Bouzas beat Martic 6-3, 6-0, meeting the British Katie Boulter in the round of 32, who in turn defeated the Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (5-7, 6-2, 6-1).

Meanwhile, Sorribes won 6-1 and 6-3 in an hour and a half against an opponent who reacted too late. In the sixth game of the second set, Noel saved three break points in favour of the Castellón native; but in reality it was to prolong her agony, as she succumbed in the ninth game. In the next round, Sorribes will play against the winner of the duel between the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia and the Armenian Elina Avanesyan.
