The first leg of the Champions League round of 16 between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City will be played at the Puskas Arena in Budapest on February 24. This was announced by UEFA on Monday. The reason is the health regulations related to Covid-19 that apply in Germany with respect to travelers from the United Kingdom (due to the contagious variant of the coronavirus).
The Puskas Arena in Budapest will also be the scene of another first leg of the Champions League round of 16, Leipzig-Liverpool, which will be played on February 16. This stadium hosted the European Super Cup between Bayern and Sevilla in September.
Borussia M'gladbach had never gone this far in this tournament since they played in the semifinals of the European Cup in 1978. “A round of 16 is an extraordinary event for Borussia Mönchengladbach, we will not be able to play with the public or in our own stadium , but we are happy because at least we will play ”, said Stephan Schippers, CEO of said German club.
In the round of 32 of the Europa League, UEFA announced the transfer of Molde-Hoffenheim to the Estadio de la Cerámica in Villarreal (on February 18).
