Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke acknowledged on Friday that “it will be difficult to retain” Erling Haaland next summer, but he did say emphatically that the Norwegian forward will not leave the club in this winter market.
“It will not come out now, it is impossible. Who gives up one of the best forwards in the world in the winter market? We are still in three competitions and we want to compete in them with the best possible team,” said Hans-Joachim Watzke in statements to ‘Der Spiegel’.
The 21-year-old Norwegian international, who has scored 19 goals in 16 games this season, is the one desired by many clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. “Going out in the summer? Of course it will be difficult to retain him, but we will try,” added the Borussia Dortmund manager.
This week, the president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, asked about the possible signing of Erling Haaland – who is represented by Mino Raiola – said that “everything is possible”. “We will be aware of the market, obviously,” he added during the presentation of Ferran Torres.
