Bolsova goes ahead and Burillo says goodbye

Aliona Bolsova continues in her bid to enter the final draw of the Australian Open. The Spanish tennis player managed to pass to the second round of qualifying after come back against the Japanese Yuki Naito 6-7 (2), 6-3 and 6-3 in two hours of play.

After a very close first round that was decided in the tie-break, Bolsova was firmer to the return than her rival, breaking her serve on up to eight occasions and making fewer unforced errors than his rival (42 from Bolsova to 47 from Naito).

Now Bolsova will fight for a place in the final match that gives a ticket to the final table of the tournament against the American Usue Maitane Arconada, who beat Britain’s Francesca Jones 5-1 and retired.

The other Spanish tennis player who was competing today in the run-up to the Australian Open had worse luck, Irene Burillo, who fell to the Australian Jaimee Fourlis 7-5 and 6-2 in a match in which Fourlis was more solid on serve and in which he took advantage of 6 of the 11 break balls he had.
