Binder climbs 14 places to win the MotoGP sprint race in Argentina

Despite having pole position, Álex Márquez missed a podium that Bezzecchi and Marini completed

MADRID, 1 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The South African rider Brad Binder (KTM) has won this Saturday the MotoGP sprint race of the Argentine Grand Prix, during the second round of the Motorcycle World Championship, ahead of the Italians Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) and Luca Marini (Ducati).

The Spanish Álex Márquez (Ducati) had achieved pole position hours before on wet asphalt, which will also be worth it to lead the long race on Sunday. However, Binder was the great cheerleader on Saturday with a comeback of 14 places in Termas de Río Hondo until he won.

Forged from a risky start, although without braking more than necessary and appeasing, the South African’s strategy had an effect until he placed himself in podium positions while Márquez himself was deflating. Bezzecchi did hold his own in the upper zone, but ultimately couldn’t keep up with Binder’s pace.

Meanwhile, the Spanish Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) crashed almost at the first change and was left out of the fight for points. Just three laps from the end, Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia), who was the winner of the same Grand Prix last year, also crashed.

The fight from behind the head then focused its focus on Marini, who overtook his compatriot Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha) and later Álex Márquez, without luck in a fateful family weekend due to the controversial sanction that his brother Marc drags along with the new injury.

Only a gap of 0.072 separated Bezzecchi from being able to overtake Binder, who crossed the checkered flag first to score 12 points ahead of the general classification. Bezzecchi scored 9 and Marini achieved 7, thus altering a World Cup that in Argentina still has the main course of the Sunday day pending.
