Bidaideak Bilbao, Ilunion and Econy Gran Canaria will begin this Friday their journey in the Champions Cup, the highest European wheelchair basketball competition, seeking to join Amiab Albacete, current champion, in the quarterfinal round.
The Albacete team, due to its status as defenders of the title, is, together with the German Thuringia, already classified for the round of the eight best, a phase that the Bilbao, Gran Canaria and Madrid teams will try to reach, with the first two with the home advantage in their qualifying group.
Those of Adrián Yáñez will play with the support of the Txurdinaga sports center in search of one of the two tickets that give the pass to the next phase. The Italian DECO Metalferro Amicacci Abruzzo, the Turkish Galatasaray SK, the French Hornets Le Cannet and the English Manchester Revolution will be their rivals.
For its part, Ilunion, current runner-up and triple champion of the competition, had to travel to the Austrian town of Klosterneuburg to fight for their classification. In addition to hosts Interwetten-Coloplast Sitting Bulls, Italian side ASD Santo Stefano Sport, German RSV Lahn-Dill and French CS Meaux await.
Finally, the Econy Gran Canaria, which last year was proclaimed champion of the Eurocup 1, will also have in its favor the ‘field factor’ that the Insular Sports Center will give it, where it will receive the Israeli Ilan Spawak Ramat Gan, the rival to the who won the European title, the German BG Baskets Hamburg and the Italian GSD Porto Torres.
