Bianca Andreescu’s ordeal continues

Bianca Andreescu continues to search for a way out of the nightmare that has become for her the last two years after surprising the world with the title at the US Open 2019 after beating Serena Williams in the final.

What was assumed to be Andreescu’s jump to the elite was stalled due to an injury at the WTA Finals that forced the Canadian tennis player to retire. Since then, Andreescu’s ordeal has gone from bad to worse: she missed the entire 2020 season because of that injury, and on her return in 2021 she was surprised in the second round of the Australian Open and in the final of the Miami Masters against Ashleigh Barty he also had to retire due to injury. As if this were not enough, the Canadian could not play at the Mutua Madrid Open after having tested positive for coronavirus and fell to the first exchange at Roland Garros, Wimbledon after trying to return for her privileges at the US Open, where she was stopped by Maria Sakkari .

Given this situation, Andreescu issued a statement on Monday in which he recapitulated everything he has experienced in recent months. “Hello everyone. As you know, these last two years have been very difficult for me for various reasons. Especially, this year in particular, I have spent several weeks isolated in quarantine, and that has affected me a lot both mentally and physically. In addition, my mother has spent several weeks in the ICU due to a coronavirus infection, something that has hit me very hard. Many days I have not felt myself, especially when training or playing games. I felt like I had the world on my shoulders. I did not know differentiate everything that was on or off the track. I felt the collective sadness and confusion around me and that hurt me. “

For this reason, Andreescu herself has announced that she will take time to reflect and completely overcome this nightmare and, in this way, confirmed that she will not play the Australian Open 2022, in addition to not setting a return date. “I want to give myself some time to reboot, recover and grow after this (although it sounds cliché) and continue to inspire doing charity work, giving back what I have received and working on myself because I know how to do it. I will come back stronger than anybody. For this reason I will not start my season in Australia this year, but I will take this extra time to reflect, train and prepare for the upcoming 2022 season. “
