Bhutan and Maldives: the exotic honeymoon of José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Teresa Urquijo

There is just over a week left until one of the most anticipated weddings of the year. José Luis Martínez-Almeida will marry Teresa Urquijo next April 6 in the church of San Francisco de Borja, located in the Salamanca neighborhood of the Madrid capital. A link described as “historic” as he was the first mayor to say “I do” during the exercise of his political responsibilities.

The celebration will be at the fiancee’s family farm, Los Molinillos, located in Navalagamella. The 500 guests who, predictably, will attend the banquet will move there. A list of personalities that includes numerous faces of Spanish politics and royalty. Don Juan Carlos, cousin of the bride’s grandmother, has already received his invitation, although the chances of him attending are slim. And, after the great wedding, the long-awaited honeymoon will arrive.

The mayor and his fiancée, now a woman, will enjoy a ten-day trip in the Maldiva’s Islandsaccording to OkDiario. Almeida and Teresa will relax in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean after the hustle and bustle of the wedding: “Organizing the tables is more difficult than making the electoral lists”, the Madrid politician said a few weeks ago. The Maldives archipelago is made up of 1,200 islands. A destination where you can enjoy a multitude of activities, from swimming with exotic fish to witnessing one of the most beautiful sunsets on the planet. There are many iconic faces who choose this destination to enjoy their days off. Lady Di’s niece, Lady Amelia Spencer, enjoyed a luxurious honeymoon in the Maldives; as well as the tennis player Feliciano López and Sandra Gago, among others.

However, the love journey of Almeida and Urquijo does not end here, because the couple also plans to visit Butane, one of the most spectacular places in the Himalayas, whose religion is Buddhism and where the main tourist attraction is the more than four thousand monasteries built in its rocky terrain. The most famous of all is Taktshang Goemba, also called Tiger’s Nest, located at 3,200 meters above sea level.

It was last June when Almeida, 48, made his relationship official with Teresa Urquijo, a 27-year-old investment analyst and aristocrat who descends from the Borbón family and the doctor and scientist Gregorio Marañón.
