Betis thrashes Valencia and does not give away the Champions

Real Betis is not going to give the Champions League to anyone. His options are still very remote, and they all involved winning this Tuesday at the Mestalla, which he did convincingly in the end (0-3) after a very thick and difficult game, resolved in the final stages by the higher quality of the Betis attackers against a willful but unwilling Valencian team, which now has eight games in a row without winning. Willian José (57′), Canales (87′) and Borja Iglesias (89′) signed the goals of the Betis victory, which strengthens them in fifth place, allows them to still look askance at fourth, at least for a few hours, and puts them in a position to beat their record for points (62) in a League of twenty teams.

The first part provided by both teams was really disappointing, with very difficult football, continuous inaccuracies and few scoring chances. As expected, Pellegrini’s men (64%) mostly enjoyed possession and Bordalás’ men abused fouls (11-4) to try to neutralize any combination attempt by the talented and fused Betis players, such as Canales, William Carvalho, Alex Moreno, Willian José or, especially, Nabil Fekir, whose offensive inspiration had not been, not even remotely, that of a few months ago, since the season is taking a long time for all of them, not in vain the game de Mestalla was the 54th contested by the Betis this campaign.

Of course, goals are love affairs and the one scored by Willian José (57′), after an excellent move started by Fekir and continued by Canales, gave the Betis back that lost inspiration, supported by the great work of their central pair -Bartra and Pezzella, then Edgar- and the good work of Guido Rodríguez ahead. Valencia came to dominate the ball in this second period, but crashed again and again, even with Guedes and Maxi Gómez, in the solid defensive network of the Betis, who sentenced the match in the final stages thanks to the quality of their men Of attack. Canales made it 0-2 after a good play with Joaquín and Sabaly and Borja Iglesias closed the account after an excellent assist from Miranda, the hero of the cup final.
