The Real Betis has sent to RFEF Competition Committee all the videos and audios in their possession to try to clarify the events that occurred on Saturday that led to the suspension of the derby of the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey before him Sevilla F.C., which resumed the next day at the Benito Villamarin behind closed doors and ended with a Verdiblanco victory 2-1.
The video evidence sent by the Real Betis, as well as those handled by the Police of its own security cameras installed in “hot zones” of the stadium allowed this Monday to identify and stop the alleged launch of the PVC stick that hit Joan Jordán and caused the subsequent suspension of the match.
The alleged perpetrator of the throwing of the stick (a piece of plastic bar PVC that a large banderole broke and that its own Police custody inside the stadium) is a 29-year-old who attends to the initials J.C.L.E, took advantage of his right not to testify at police stations and was not transferred to court -which will call him in a few days-, but was released with charges after being arrested. The young man has a history of abuse, injuries and robberies with force. One of the arrests that he has in his criminal history, curiously, was for a robbery committed in 2010 in a Peña Bética, specifically in his neighborhood in Parque Alcosa.
The Verdiblanco club, as its president and coach publicly claimed, Angel Haro and Manuel Pellegrini, wants a thorough investigation of everything that has happened since the object was launched and the game was suspended, because according to various Betis footballers, it was the Sevilla coach, Julen Lopetegui, who, seven minutes after impact, urged Joan Jordan -until then in apparent good condition- to request medical assistance and say that he was dizzy to cause the suspension of the game, which was resumed the next day without an audience, for which the club is exposed to a heavy fine and the closure of its stadium or part of it.
Real Betis videos
The Real Betis has sent video fragments from its own television cameras and from other networks present on the pitch, as well as audio and lip-reading reports translating the instructions given to its players by Julen Lopetegui. There are also testimonies in his possession from 061 personnel who assure that Joan Jordan He told them that he was “fine” after the suspension and that he did not want them to treat him after citing his dizziness, since he locked himself in his locker room for more than an hour until he left the hospital in an ambulance. Benito Villamarin to be transferred to a private clinic, where he was treated and sent home under ’24-hour home observation’. Jordan did not play on Sunday when the game resumed and on Monday morning he returned to training normally despite the head and brain injury that, according to Sevilla FC, had been diagnosed as a result of the blow received with the PVC bar.
The note of Sevilla FC
The Sevilla F.C. released a statement on Monday in which it “strongly condemns the humiliation and attacks on the honorability suffered by its player Joan Jordan and the lack of respect towards his coach, Julen Lopetegui, about which unsubstantiated comments have been made based on self-interested speculation”, emphasizing that “Jordan he was attacked, was treated in a hospital, had to rest at home due to medical prescription and was unable to play in the resumption of the game. The victim is Jordán”. That is why the Nervionense club “considers certain behaviors by some members of Real Betis Balompié towards Joan Jordán, Julen Lopetegui and the Sevilla fans to be unfortunate and unacceptable, seriously compromising the healthy rivalry that is generally lived in the city of Seville”. The Nervionense club, at the end of its statement, wanted to shelve the matter, indicating that “it will continue betting on reducing the tension and working so that the tension in the derbies lives solely and exclusively within the field of play, although he feels alone in this mission”.
At Real Betis, for their part, want all the facts to be fully clarified, since they expose themselves to a harsh sanction from the Competition Committee for having to suspend a match that they understand could have continued playing, with good spirits, as happened on other occasions in similar situations, for example when the Betis goalkeeper Toni Prats was assaulted during a derby in the Sanchez-Pizjuan years ago by a spectator who jumped onto the field and was hung from behind by his neck.
