Betis ensures to continue competing in Europe

The Real Betis, despite the win conceded in Leverkusen (4-0), ensured their continuity in European competitions after the group stage, since by losing the Ferencvaros (four defeats in four games) with the Celtic (2-3) is guaranteed at least third place in the Group G from Europa League, which would lead its owner to play the knock-out round on February 17 and 24 to access the round of 16 of the Conference League, against a second of one of the eight groups of this tournament.

The Real Betis is, next to Real Madrid, the only Spanish team that is guaranteed its continuity in the European competitions of this campaign after four days of the group stages, since neither Atlético, Barcelona, Sevilla FC and Villarreal They are guaranteed third place in the Champions League and Real Sociedad in the Europa League. FC Barcelona, Villarreal and Sevilla FC they can still be 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th of their respective groups in the Champions -as the Real in the Europa League-, and Atlético can only be 2nd, 3rd or 4th in theirs, since the Liverpool is already unattainable. The Real Betis, As the Real Madrid, can only be first (although their options are very remote), second or third, but never fourth, a place that in Group G of the Europa League is already reserved for the Ferencvaros from Budapest.

Winning Ferencvaros may be enough

On November 25 the Real Betis receive the Ferencvaros at Benito Villamarin at the same time (6.45pm) as the Bayer Leverkusen receive the Celtic -which already thrashed 0-4 in Glasgow- in the BayArena. A victory for Betis and Germans would leave the group fully resolved in the absence of a matchday, with Leverkusen 1st, Real Betis 2nd, Celtic 3rd and Ferencvaros 4th, making the last match at Celtic Park between Celtic and Betis (December 9 at 9pm) would not affect the final classification of the group at all. If Celtic (currently with 6 points) were to draw in Germany against Leverkusen (currently with 10 points), Real Betis (7 points) should win at Ferencvaros by two goals difference so that it could be worth losing by the minimum in Celtic Park to qualify as second, because in Villamarín he won 4-3 and currently has an overall average of -1, by -2 of the Scots, who still depend of themselves to qualify as second in the group and they would achieve it if they win the last two games, in Leverkusen and against Betis in Celtic Park.

If he Betis finishes 2nd in the group will be measured in the knock-out round of the Europa League -of which the 1st in group are fought- on February 17 and 24 next to a third-placed team in the Champions League that is not Spanish (neither in Eighths may cross teams from the same country). Currently the third group in the Champions League are: Bruges, Atlético, Sporting Clube, Sheriff, Benfica, Atalanta, Wolfsburg and Zenit, although none of those third positions have yet been awarded. Real Madrid is first in their group, FC Barcelona and Villarreal are second and Sevilla FC is fourth, although everything can change in the last two days.

Group 3 in the Europa League goes to the Conference

If he Betis finishes 3rd in the group in the Europa League would be measured in the knock-out round of the Conference League, also next February 17 and 24, to a 2nd group of this tournament, positions that they currently occupy: Lask, Partizan, Roma, Jablonec, Slavia de Praga, Slovan Bratislava, Tottenham y Basel.

It is the case that the derby Sevilla FC – Real BetiThe second round is scheduled for Sunday February 27 (or maybe Monday 28, Andalusia Day holiday) just three days after the second leg knock-out round matches of the Europa League and the Conference League. The knockout stages of the Champions League will be played in two rounds, the first leg matches being set for February 15/16 and 22/23, and the return matches for March 8/9 and 15/16. Sevilla FC would play that round of 16 if they finished first or second in Group G in the Champions League and would go to the knock-out round of the Europa League if he finishes third. If he finishes fourth – since he currently occupies – he would be eliminated from European competitions in December.
