Betis, “conditionally excluded” from Europe for three seasons

The newly created First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Committee (First Chamber of the CFCB) announced this Friday in a statement that eight football clubs, including Real Betis, were sanctioned due to “failure to comply with the requirement of not having past due debts.”

According to the statement, Real Betis was sanctioned “with an unconditional financial contribution” of a total of 250,000 euros and, in addition, “with a conditional exclusion from participation in the next UEFA club competition for which they would be classified in the next three seasons “, that is, 2022/23, 2023/24 and 2024/25, unless they can demonstrate before January 31, 2022 that they have paid the outstanding amounts.”

The case that has caused the sanction of UEFA, according to sources from the Verdiblanco club, It is the non-payment to Rayo Vallecano of part of the transfer of Álex Moreno, estimated at 7 million euros, plus one in variables, which took place in 2019. Betis did not attend to one of the payments and that led to the intervention of UEFA, although the entity assures that an agreement has already been reached between the clubs.

Betis presented losses, in its last meeting, of 36.5 million euros and a negative working capital of 122. In addition, its short-term debt is established at 129 million. These are the difficulties that must be resolved before January 31 to mitigate the sanction.

In addition to the Verdiblanco team, the other seven teams that were sanctioned are FC Astana (Kazakhstan), the Cluj (Romania), the CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), the Mons Calpe (Gibraltar) and the CD Santa Clara, the FC Port and the Sporting Club (Portugal). The fines imposed are 300,000 euros to Porto, 250,000 to Betis and Sporting de Portugal, 75,000 to CSKA of Sofia and Santa Clara, 15,000 to Mons Calpe, while Astana and Cluj have been fined 150,000 and 200,000 euros, respectively.
