Berrettini: “Djokovic was the only one who could beat me at Wimbledon”

Matteo Berrettini was very satisfied with his performance at Wimbledon despite losing in the final of the tournament to Novak Djokovic. The Italian tennis player believes that the experience at the London Grand Slam will help him grow as a tennis player after a brilliant season on grass in which he also managed to win the title at Queen's.

Indeed, Berrettini claimed after losing in the final that Djokovic was the only tennis player who could beat him on the grass at Wimbledon. “I took to the track knowing that his strengths would clash with mine. I know I probably needed to play a better game than I did. I don't think I would say anything crazy if I said that he is the only player who could beat me in this tournament. “

Berrettini believes that these latest great performances will help him grow and even get closer to Novak Djokovic. “The most important thing for me is that I am losing against the best players in the world. In Paris I lost against him and he won the tournament. At Queen's I won the title and at Wimbledon I have lost against him again. That means my level is growing. My weapons and my tennis are growing. I am on the right track and doing the right thing. Djokovic has been better again, but every game I play against him helps me get closer. “

The Italian also confessed that he needs matches like these to continue growing and even win his first Wimbledon. “I need games and experiences like these, that's what I tell my team. Obviously, even if it causes me some anger or disappointment, this will help me for future tournaments. It's been an incredible two weeks for me. I won at Queen's, I didn't expect to win here. I have reached the final at Wimbledon. But I know that I can do it, that I can win this title. I'm not sure I do it, but I know I can. That is what I will do in the coming weeks, months and years: try to lift the trophy. “
