Belgium begins its European revalidation against Slovakia

MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Belgian and Slovak football teams will face each other this Monday (6:00 p.m.) at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt am Main, in a duel corresponding to Group E of the men’s Euro Cup and which for the Belgian team will be the beginning of a particular revalidation at the continental level.

In the last decade, Belgium has been pointed out countless times as a possible positive surprise in major national team tournaments. Since the generation led by Eden Hazard emerged in the 2014 World Cup, the focus has been on their performances. However, in the Euro Cups the Belgians have not given that long-awaited blow to the table.

To go far in this new competition on German soil, the team coached by Domenico Tedesco will trust its options to the state of form and spirit of Kevin De Bruyne. Become Manchester City’s watchword, he will guide the offensive tasks alongside his teammate Jérémy Doku, presumably in the company of Leandro Trossard.

Ahead of this fast and skilled trio, the person in charge of the last shots will be Romelu Lukaku, who this season at AS Roma has regained the good tone that seemed to have been lost due to his round trips between Chelsea FC and Inter. Milan.

Another classic of the Belgian team, colchonero Axel Witsel, is suffering from discomfort and his starting lineup will be unknown until moments before the start of the match. Established as a center back at Atlético de Madrid, his role under Tedesco has also been characterized by delaying his position from the center of the field to the rear.

Nor is a starting position expected for another colchonero, Arthur Vermeeren, who has barely entered Diego Pablo Simeone’s schemes since he arrived at Atlético in the last winter transfer market. Amadou Onana, Orel Mangala and Youri Tielemans have overtaken the young Vermeeren in the coach’s rotation, whose plans have not pleased everyone.

His personal problems with Thibaut Courtois have caused the Real Madrid goalkeeper, fully recovered from his injuries, to be left out of the Italian coach’s squad for this EURO. That’s why Koen Casteels, VfL Wolfsburg goalkeeper, starts with a certain advantage.

In the front rows, the also Italian Francesco Calzona will have no casualties, except for a last-minute scare. Goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka and defenders Milan Skriniar and David Hancko are perhaps the most recognizable names, along with Stanislav Lobotka, of a team that completed its qualifying phase quite well in a group led by Portugal.
