Before he kicked the game-winning field goal against the Broncos, Patriots kicker Chad Ryland “didn’t waver in confidence at all.”

There were a lot of rough spots in the first 59 minutes as well as 53 seconds of the New England Patriots’ game against the Denver Broncos.

This season, the rookie kicker has been all over the place, and on Sunday night, he missed two more chances.

First, he missed a field goal attempt from 47 yards out to the right. In the end, one of his extra-point tries hit the left upright.

“I saw it in the air, and I knew it,” Ryland said following the game. “I was sure it would go in when I hit it.”

Before that one point, the Patriots were tied 23–23 with seven ticks remaining in regulation in their Week 16 game to Denver. That point would have been very helpful for them in the fourth quarter.

At that point, they needed Ryland again, but this time to split the goal posts from 56 yards away.

He made no mistake with his kick; it went straight down and gave the Patriots a 26–23 lead, which they would hold on to win.

That kick was the 24-year-old’s best so far in his young career. It was also a way for him to make up for his past bad performances against the Broncos as well as other games.

Ryland had only made 13 of 20 field goal tries coming into the game. In Week 12, he missed a game-tying kick within a similar situation towards the New York Giants. As the day went on, things didn’t look better in Denver, but the kid kept his heads up.

“I really didn’t lose confidence because I knew the guys I was with still believed in me and have believed in me all year.”

“Having the guys there to back you up means more to a sportsperson, and even more to a kicker, than that which I could ever put into words,” Ryland said at his news conference after the game.

“People like Matt Slater will tell you, ‘Hey man, we’re going to need you in the fourth quarter.'” That’s what it turned out to be.

Matthew the prophet said it would happen, and it did. I feel very lucky and thankful to have a team that backs me up no matter what.

Before he scored the game-winning field goal, Chad Ryland was having a pretty rough time. On Sunday, the New England Patriots shocked the Denver Broncos by beating them.

The rookie kicker was having more trouble early in Sunday’s game. In the first half, he missed a 47-yard field goal wide to the right.

In the third quarter, he hit the upright on a point-after try, which cost the Patriots four points. He is now 14-of-21 on field goal chances this season.

Still, the Patriots used him to make the play that won the game. Ryland then had a chance to fix his mistakes, which would have tied the game at 23-23.

With seven seconds left, Bailey Zappe helped lead a six-play, 43-yard drive that got the Patriots on the Broncos’ 38-yard line.

“The best treasure is often hidden in the darkest caves,” Ryland told reporters after the win.

“I’ve been having a rough year, so I feel very lucky to have an entire squad that believes in me.” That helps me keep going with the steps and then knock down the last one.

Chad Ryland, a rookie kicker, was that hero. Earlier in the game, he had missed a field goal as well as an extra point, but at the end in the fourth quarter, he stepped onto the field to try a 56-yard field goal.

Ryland’s kick went straight across the uprights this time, though, unlike the others he missed. With two seconds left in the game, the Patriots were ahead 26–23.

With a squib goal and one offensive play to Denver, the Patriots won the win. Their record now stands at 4-11, while Denver’s is now 7-8.

There were three sacks by Christian Barmore to help the New England defense. Mack Wilson and Josh Uche each had one.

On 25 of 33 throws, Bailey Zappe gained 256 yards, scored two touchdowns, and did not throw an interception. It was Ezekiel Elliott along with Mike Gesicki who caught the touchdowns. Demario Douglas had the most receiving yards with 74.
