Beat Russia to tie the knot to the semi-finals

The ‘Hispanos’ defend their advantage in the face of the crosses in the second duel of the final phase

MADRID, 20 One. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish men’s handball team can put a foot and a half in the semifinals of the 2022 European Championship if this Friday (15:30/Teledeporte) it beats Russia on the second day of the ‘Main Round’, with the option of stretching its leadership alone without barely rest after beating Germany.

This is how the calendar is made and this is how the Group II teams play it, with a double session in 24 hours in which the crosses can be quite decided. For good is the case of the ‘Hispanics’, after their victory (23-29) against Germany.

Despite the bad news of the positives from Joan Cañellas and Ian Tarrafeta, the current double European champion brought out a great version that knocked down the Germans to be the only team with four points. Russia, on the other hand, the other team that, like the German and the Spanish, had advanced with two points, lost (23-19) to Sweden.

Ribera’s team showed that the renewal is sitting well, new faces like Casado’s who seem to have several tournaments instead of making their debut in this European. In addition, Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas offered his umpteenth recital in the Spanish goal with 16 saves, key in the takeoff against Germany.

With no time to celebrate, the ‘Hispanics’ now face Russia with the option of knocking out a contender for the first two places and scoring 6 points. Regardless of what happens in the rest of the matches, Spain would tie the semifinals, knowing that they will later have two more affordable rivals such as Norway and Poland to close this ‘Main Round’.
