The Spanish international Bea Ortiz has been named the best water polo player in the world of the year 2024 by the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics).
The 29-year-old from Barcelona won the final election over other candidates such as her teammate in the Spanish team Elena Ruiz, with whom she won gold at the Paris Olympic Games; to the Australians Gabriella Palm and Alice Williams, Olympic runners-up; and the Dutch Sabrina van der Sloot, European champion and Olympic bronze medalist.
In addition to her role in the success in the French capital, her performances in winning the silver medal in the European Championship – where she was named MVP -, the bronze in the World Cup and the European champion title with Astralpool Sabadell were key to her Rubí’s was able to win the award.
In this way, Bea Ortiz is the second Spanish woman to receive recognition as the best player in the world, after Jennifer Pareja achieved it in 2013. In men, Felipe Perrone also achieved it in 2022.
