Bayern winger Davies finalizes his return after suffering heart problems

MUNICH (GERMANY), March 27. (dpa/EP) –

Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies is preparing to make a full return to team training after being out since early January due to heart problems following a coronavirus infection.

The 21-year-old Canadian has not played since December, as he was diagnosed with mild inflammation of the heart muscle. He was able to start doing parts of the team’s training last week, and hopes his progress will continue.

“My recovery has gone well so far. I don’t have any problems with my muscles and heart. But I’m not 100%, not yet. I’m happy to be able to train again and I’m ready to work,” he said in an interview with the Bavarian club website.

“I’m giving everything. I’m working closely with the medical staff and the rehabilitation staff. And I’m training very, very hard with and without the ball, running a lot, training well. I hope to be able to help the team again soon,” he said.

The return of the left back would propel Bayern into the crucial weeks of the season. Bayern leads the Bundesliga with a six-point lead over Borussia Dortmund, whom they will face on April 23. Their next league game will be on April 2 in Freiburg, and the Champions League quarterfinals against Villarreal on April 6 and 12.
