Bayern position themselves against the Superliga

The creation of the Superliga will give an important turn to the bodies of UEFA. The heads of the twelve founding clubs of the Super league will lose all their functions within the organization chart of the continental federation and, according to the New York Times, will be Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, chairman of the Bayern Munich board of directors, the main beneficiary of the earthquake that is shaking UEFA. In addition, the club itself has issued a statement in which it is officially against the new competition.

Bayern announced their position: “FC Bayern did not participate in the planning of a Super League. We are convinced that the current static of football guarantees a serious base. FC Bayern welcomes the reform of the Champions League because we believe that they are the right step for the development of European football. The modified preliminary round will add to the excitement of the competition. I do not believe that the Super League will solve the financial problems of European clubs as a result of the coronavirus. Rather, all clubs in Europe should work in solidarity so that the cost structure, especially the salaries of the players and the fees of the agents, is adjusted to the income so that all European football is more rational.

It is an open secret that the president of Juve, Andrea Agnelli, was one of the promoters of the Super League. Together with the president of Real Madrid, Florentino PérezAgnelli worked intensely over the last few months to finally finish announcing the creation of the Super League on Sunday. In consecuense,Agnelli lost his position in the UEFA Executive Committee and his successor in the position would be Rummenigge.

The Executive Committee is the highest body of UEFA and is composed of 16 members and the presidentity. The “ExCo” makes all the important decisions for UEFA, including the reform of the Champions League decided on Monday. Official confirmation from UEFA is pending, but the appointment of Rummenigge would be a good sign for a Bundesliga that rejects the new Super League unanimously.
