Purchases of players for figures of 100 million euros like that of English striker Harry Kane will not become a custom at Bayern Munich, the club’s president, Herbert Hainer, said this Saturday.
“Such sums will remain the exception,” Hainer said in an interview with faz.net. The 69-year-old manager explained that they will not do anything that could put the club in a bad economic situation.
Despite this, he highlighted that Kane was a very good signing. “He is someone who works incredibly meticulously and pays attention to all the details, such as health and nutrition. We are confident that he can play at this level for many years,” said Hainer. The 30-year-old goalscorer arrived in Munich from Tottenham Hotspur for 100 million euros before this season.
Hainer revealed that they could have also tried to sign his compatriot Declan Rice, whom coach Thomas Tuchel would have liked to see in the Bayern squad. “But under these conditions we didn’t want to do it,” he added. According to the manager, Arsenal paid West Ham United more than 120 million euros for the 24-year-old player.
“We don’t have big investors or state sponsors. We earn every cent ourselves and we have no debt. We have paid for the Allianz Arena (stadium), we have paid for the sports academy and we still have a few euros in the fixed deposit account. On the one hand, that makes us proud. On the other, it gives us inner strength for this path, for Bayern’s path,” Hainer explained.
Hainer clarified that it is not easy, for example, when offers come from clubs in Saudi Arabia, as happened this summer. “But we have shown that we can face all challenges well and continue playing in the highest European category,” he said.
