Bayern host Schalke at the start of the Bundesliga

Bayern Munich will host Schalke 04 on the first day of the Bundesliga, which will take place between 18 and 21 September according to the calendar presented today by the German Football League.

Traditionally, the champion of the previous season opens the next one in the first match of the first day that takes place on Friday.

However, it has not yet been decided that Bayern's duel against Schalke will be played on September 18. In the event that Bayern reaches the final of the Champions League, the match will be moved to 21 and the opening match will be played by Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The traditional winter break will begin after the thirteenth match that will be played between December 18 and 21 and it will be shorter than usual since the tournament will resume on January 2 with the beginning of the fourteenth day.

The last day must be played on May 22.

It is not yet clear if the public will be able to return to the stadiums for the following season.

Although the DFL has presented a plan for the return with reduced capacity and various restrictions, everything depends on the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic and the approval of the political and health authorities.
