The CEO of Bayern Munich, Jan-Christian Dreesen, condemned the “despicable” and “disgusting” racist insults on the Internet against the defender of the Munich team Dayot Upamecano during the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Lazio.
Upamecano was attacked on his Instagram account after being sent off in the 67th minute for a harsh challenge in the area on Gustav Isaksen, causing a penalty with which the Italian team took the lead in the first leg of the continental tie. An action that Dreesen described this Thursday as “very unfortunate.”
“What especially bothered me were the disgusting comments on social media afterwards. I can only say that it is despicable. This type of racist mob is not our world. That is not Bayern. It is something that we will not tolerate,” he declared.
Bayern already condemned the comments against its central defender in a statement. “Bayern strongly condemns the racist comments directed at Dayot Upamecano on social media. Anyone who comments hateful words like these is not a fan of our club,” the club wrote on X.
