MADRID, 11 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Spanish tennis players Roberto Bautista and Albert Ramos were eliminated this Thursday in the tournament in Montreal (Canada), the sixth Masters 1,000 of the season, after losing at the hands of the Norwegian Casper Ruud (6-7(4), 7-6(4). ) and 6-4) and Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz (6-7(6), 6-2 and 7-6(3), respectively, after suffering comebacks.
Bautista, champion in Kitzbuhel a few weeks ago, could not continue his good moment in the Canadian tournament despite starting with a hard-fought victory in the first set. The man from Castellón was very reliable in the ‘tie-break’ and sent the first warning to his opponent, who greatly improved in the second round.
The equality continued on the track and Ruud paid with the same coin. He replied in sudden death to make it 1-1 before the game was suspended due to rain. This circumstance played a trick on the Spanish tennis player, who gave wings to the Norwegian with a loss of service in the fifth game. Ruud -seeded fourth in Canada- sealed his victory in 3 hours and 19 minutes.
Something similar happened to Albert Ramos, who took the first set against Hurkacz but could not stop the gale of good play that the Pole starred in the second round. The resounding 6-2 took the stake to the third and final that -after a stoppage due to the rain- was decided in the ‘tie-break’.
The Catalan tennis player lost the serve at the first change but quickly made up for it with a ‘minibreak’ that left the options intact. From that moment on, it was Hurkacz, the eighth favorite, who commanded the match and chained four consecutive points to certify the pass to the quarterfinals.
