The Olympiacos coach and former Barça coach Georgios Bartzokas compared the end of his time at FC Barcelona, the 2016/17 season, to a “depression”, although he acknowledged that before arriving at the Palau Blaugrana and his experience it was like being “in Paradise”.
“I made mistakes. I had the opportunity to live in a fantastic city like Barcelona, train a fantastic team and bring the family to be all together, it was like being in paradise. The end was like a depression for me”, he assured in the DAZN program ‘The Coaching Experience’.
Now, at Olympiacos, he is in charge of a renewed team that is a candidate for the title. “I have tried to create a different team. I cannot and I do not want to have another Spanoulis, because there is only one Spanoulis, or another Printezis, because there is only one Giorgos Printezis”, Bartzokas assured about the forced renewal of the squad that he had to do the club after the departure of those legends.
One of the current pillars is the ex-Blaugrana Sasha Vezenkov, who may be the MVP of the Regular Season. “He is having an excellent season. Last year he already had an excellent season, but this year is being even better. Not only because of his statistics, but because of the impact he is having on the game,” he assured.
