MADRID 11 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The ‘Match’ of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup between the defender Emirates Team New Zealand and the candidate INEOS Britannia had its opening ceremony this Thursday in Barcelona, at the Platja de Bogatell, where the power of sport merged with art and culture as agents of change and capacity for commitment.
Albert Guinovart, composer and director of the soundtrack, reflected on an impressive evening. “We believe that the contrast between artists helps us magnify the message of the show and reach a broad audience so that they identify with the image that Barcelona and Catalonia want to project to the world through the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup,” he said.
Barcelona, known for its innovation and culture, was the perfect setting for an event that merged technology, art and nature. The ceremony, inspired by the sea, wind and navigation, symbolized human ingenuity and collective effort, creating a narrative that promised to reconnect the public with the power of nature and the magic of maritime exploration.
“Our connection with Barcelona, its people, its culture and its identity has resonated with the values that we wanted to promote at the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup: sustainability, diversity, inclusion, technology and innovation. This concert was designed to showcase those values to the time competing with unforgettable memories of the opening ceremony of the 1992 Olympic Games, a memory etched in the minds of all who witnessed it,” said Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Event.
“It was a fitting spectacle and a lasting legacy for what has been an incredible summer of sailing in Barcelona ahead of the final ‘Match’ of the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile, Leslie Ryan, director of America’s Cup Events (ACE) Barcelona, expressed what this ceremony meant before the climax of the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup. “Since we chose Barcelona as the venue, we have felt the unique energy that makes Barcelona such a special and iconic city worldwide. Fans around the world have enjoyed a spectacular and memorable concert, which has highlighted the successful partnership between Barcelona and the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup,” he said.
An estimated 60,000 people watched the free concert from Platja de Bogatell and local beaches, and 800 people from the America’s Cup community watched it from inside the America’s Cup Fanzone, a spectacle worthy of 173 years of competition history.
The Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Match between Emirates Team New Zealand and INEOS Britannia begins on Saturday, October 12, when these two elite teams will meet in Barcelona waters in the first two races of the seven-point series.
