Barça handball player and Spanish international Pol Valera will be out for between six and eight months, meaning he will not be able to play until well into next season, after undergoing surgery on his right knee this Wednesday.
“Once the intervention has been carried out, by Dr. Jordi Puigdellívol at the Barcelona Hospital, it is estimated that the centre-back’s time out will be between six and eight months,” the Blaugrana club announced.
Pol Valera underwent surgery this Tuesday for the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that occurred in the second leg of the EHF Champions League quarterfinals against French club PSG.
Blaugrana captain Dika Mem and pivot Luís Frade carried their teammate Pol Valera on their shoulders, as if they were a stretcher, when he fell injured to the floor of the Palau Blaugrana, shortly after entering the court for the first time and scoring two goals.
Valera has played 24 games in the Plenitude Asobal League this season and the 16 in the Champions League played so far, but he will miss the Final 4 in Cologne in which Barça will try to win its twelfth Champions League.
