The FC Barcelona has reported the creation by the board of directors of a commission for the Reform of the Statutes and promote a participatory process of its partners so that they participate in this adaptation of the Statutes to the new times. The club wants to collect ideas, suggestions and proposals to update and improve the set of rules by which the entity’s activity is governed with the emergence of new technologies and the new possibilities it offers for participation in the club’s social life. The telematic referendum on the financing of the Barça space and the Extraordinary assembly telematics to approve the sponsorship of Spotify are two examples.
For a month and from this Monday, May 16, contributions can be made on the club’s website to submit the proposal resulting from this process for the approval of the compromising members in the next Ordinary Assembly October. On the club’s agenda is promoting meetings with groups of members to listen to all the proposals, concerns and suggestions that should be included in the new Statutes proposal.
Work commission to watch over the process
the vice president Elena Fort heads a Work Commission to carry out the statutory reform process together with the secretary of the Board, Josep Cubells; the member of the Disciplinary Commission Ramon Esteve; the members of the Economic Commission Jaume Guardiola y Jaume Carrasco; the notary Juan Carlos Ollé; and the Catalan Ombudsman, Joan Manel Trayter.
The last modification, in October
Last October the Assembly approved the latest amendment to the Statutes. The modified articles introduced in the text of the Carta Magna issues relating to the promotion of democratic values, equality and non-discrimination; the eradication of sexist, homophobic and racist attitudes in the social and sports spheres, they incorporated that the entry of a new partner can be done electronically; and that the number of directors could be increased from 21 to a maximum of 25.
The reform reduced the duration of the mandate from six to five calendar years, extended the code of ethics to all employees of the club and introduced a new article related to the Ethics and Transparency Commission. In addition, two transitory provisions were approved, the first that the modification of the duration of the mandate would not affect the current Board of Directors, and the second, that as a result of the losses registered and the indebtedness of the club at the time of approving the relative accounts As of the 2020/21 financial year, article 67 is provisionally suspended and without effect until the restitution of the positive net worth.
Fort: “It is essential to open a participatory process”
Elena Fortvice president of Institutional Area of the Barça, stressed that “in the current times, we must rethink many things that are in the Statutes and that is why we started this process in which there is a commission that is working on the various modifications that must be made”. In this sense, he added that “with the desire to involve members in the club’s decisions, it is essential to open a participatory process, which has never occurred in this club, so that all members can express through the web all those proposals that they consider essential to modify these Statutes and that they feel theirs and their own”.
