Barça is looking for its third consecutive Cup

The culés face the surprising Sporting de Huelva, champion in 2015

MADRID, 28 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

This Sunday, FC Barcelona is looking for its third consecutive Copa de la Reina against Sporting de Huelva (11.30 am/Teledeporte) at the Santo Domingo stadium (Alcorcón), with the intention of closing the course with the best possible taste in the mouth after the stumble in the final of the ‘Champions League’.

The group led by Jonatan Giráldez, who signed a perfect League with 30 victories in 30 games, already removed the thorn from the continental final last Wednesday after beating Real Madrid (4-0). That bulky victory earned him a ticket to the final where they will try to add their third title of the course in a duel -a priori- where they have everything to win.

Barça beat Huelva both at home and away in the Iberdrola League by the same score (5-0) and also did so with a ‘little hand’ in their last precedent last year. The Blaugrana have shown more force than the team led by Antonio Toledo, the great surprise of the ‘KO’ tournament.

Champions in 2015, the Andalusian team will try to repeat the feat of seven seasons ago after their miraculous victory in the semifinals against UDG Tenerife (0-1). When everything was against them, the Huelva team found oil in a set piece action.

Sporting was always at the mercy of its rival, but a goal by Patri Ojeda in an isolated action served to give the bell and corroborate that its elimination of other greats -such as Atlético de Madrid in the previous rounds- was not a coincidence. This Sunday they will look for a surprise against the best national club, the undisputed leader of the 2021-22 season.

The Andalusians travel with the entire team except for Ana Carol, who left at the last minute, and the long-term injured Stephannie Blanco, while Barça will not be able to count on Caroline Graham Hansen, nor Jennifer Hermoso, who has already missed the semifinals after suffering a muscular discomfort.

A clash that could mean the ninth Copa de la Reina for a Barça that never tires of winning and continues to extend its dominance in women’s football -not only at the national level-. For Sporting de Huelva it would be the second and a triumph for history against an almost ‘inaccessible’ rival.
