The Blaugranas defeat their ‘black beast’ of Lyon for the first time and retain the title
BILBAO, May 25. (From the special envoy of EUROPA PRESS, Ferran Tuñón) –
Barça Women are European champions for the third time in their history after beating Lyon in San Mamés (Bilbao) by 2-0, thanks to goals from Balón de Oro Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas in the second half that ended the series of defeats against the French and which gives Barça its second consecutive ‘Champions’.
In the fifth final in the last six editions, in their third final against Lyon, Barça Femení was finally able to put an end to their ‘black beast’ and celebrate, in a San Mamés that was 95 percent Blaugrana, a more than possible change of era in European football.
This final was nothing like those of 2019 and 2022, when Lyon won 4-1 and 3-1 against Barça Femení. This time, the Blaugranas had the dominance, more chances and raised their game to finish off Lyon, which continues to be (with eight) the most successful team. But already beaten by the Barça of the Gold players Aitana Bonmatí and Alexia Putellas.
