Jorge Martín suffered a fall but maintains the MotoGP leadership

The Italian rider Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia (Ducati) achieved victory this Sunday in the MotoGP race of the Gran Premio Estrella Galicia 0.0 of Spain, the fourth round of the motorcycle World Championship, ahead of the Spanish Marc Márquez (Ducati), a result that allows him to close the gap in the general standings with respect to Jorge Martín (Ducati), who continues to lead despite suffering a fall when he was leading the event.
After an exciting fight with Márquez in the final stretch, with Martín already out of the race, ‘Pecco’ scored his third consecutive victory in Jerez, something that no one had achieved in the premier class since Valentino Rossi (2001-03). The one from Cervera and the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) completed the podium.
Despite his fall, Martín continues to lead the championship overall with 92 points, 17 ahead of Bagnaia (75) and 22 over the also transalpine Enea Bastianini (Ducati, 70). The Murcian Pedro Acosta (KTM), tenth this Sunday, drops from second to fourth place.
As soon as the traffic lights went out, poleman Marc Márquez defended his privileged position, although his crash in the last corner of the Jerez track helped Bagnaia and Martín overtake him. Just one turn later, ‘Pecco’ went wide and the one from San Sebastián de los Reyes took the lead of the race.
Meanwhile, the falls began to happen. With 21 laps to go it was Dani Pedrosa (KTM), who had started third, who went to the gravel, and six laps later the Frenchman Johann Zarco (Honda) and Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) also ended up on the ground. ). In that same turn, everything went up in the air.
At turn 6, Martín crashed, unable to recover his bike, and Bagnaia took first place with almost a second advantage over his compatriot Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati) and Marc Márquez. Three laps later, the man from Cervera overtook the transalpine and began to ride at a fast lap pace to hunt down the two-time world champion.
Two other falls, of the Italian Franco Morbidelli (Ducati) and the Australian Jack Miller (KTM), preceded the tense fight between the two world champions. The Catalan put the bike into Bagnaia on several occasions, who managed to defend himself on all of them to take the win and lead the ‘Top 5’ of the Ducati.
Alex Márquez (Ducati) and Bastianini got into the top five finishers. In addition, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) finished ninth, Acosta was tenth, Raúl Fernández (Aprilia) eleventh, Joan Mir (Repsol Honda) twelfth and Alex Rins (Yamaha) thirteenth. Martín, Aleix Espargaró, Pedrosa and Augusto Fernández (KTM) did not finish.
