Badosa stays at the gates of the Stuttgart final against Sabalenka

MADRID, 23 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa has not been able to reach the final of the tournament in Stuttgart (Germany), in the WTA 500 category and which is played on clay on an indoor court, after falling this Saturday in the semifinals against the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (7- 6(5), 6-4).

The Catalan, number three in the world and second seeded, did not know how to take advantage of the 5-2 with which she advanced in the opening set, after materializing one of the four break opportunities she had enjoyed so far in German clay.

Sabalenka then defended her serve with a blank game and broke the Spanish’s next serve, with whom she met in a ‘tie-break’ in which, once again, she recovered from her opponent’s advantage. Badosa started 3-0 but could not avoid the reaction of the Belarusian, who closed the sudden death in her favor.

Already in the second set, both exchanged breaks in the first two games. The equality was maintained until the tenth game, where Badosa was fired after one hour and 42 minutes of play after two consecutive double faults.

Despite everything, Badosa will debut next Monday her best historical position in the WTA ranking, a second place that will allow her to overcome the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, injured, and that will leave her only behind the Polish Iga Swiatek.
