Badosa starts with victory in the land of Charleston

MADRID, 7 Apr. (SportsFinding) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa debuted with a solid victory this Wednesday in the tournament in Charleston (United States), of the WTA 500 category and which is played on clay, against the Hungarian Anna Bondar (6-1, 6-4), in his debut on the ranking podium as number three in the world.

The Catalan returned to action after retiring ill in the quarterfinals of the Miami tournament last week, an abandonment that did not prevent her from climbing among the best in the world to be already the third best tennis player on the WTA Circuit. She had never faced the Hungarian against the Hungarian and the presentation on land was forceful.

Bondar felt the pressure of his prestigious rival every time he had to serve and, after a wasted first option, Badosa achieved the ‘break’ in the fourth game of the first set. The income was double for the Spanish in the sixth, to close later with a 6-1 opening set in Charleston.

The number three in the world, who made the semifinals in her first participation last year in the South Carolina event, endured the rise in level of her rival when the day was stopped due to the threat of an electrical storm. After close to an hour’s break, Bonda gave up his serve after the restart.

Badosa also came back cold, giving up her serve, but she was more aggressive to the rest, achieving another definitive ‘break’. The Catalan sealed her victory in a long and beautiful rally to advance to the round of 16, where she will face the American Claire Liu.
