Badosa says goodbye to Charleston before Pegula and Sorribes says goodbye in Bogotá

MADRID, 8 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa has said goodbye to the tournament in Charleston (United States), in the WTA 500 category and played on clay, after falling this morning in the quarterfinals against the American Jessica Pegula (6-3, 7-6( 6)), while Sara Sorribes has also lost to the Russian Kamilla Rakhimova (6-4, 7-5) in the quarterfinals of the Bogotá tournament, WTA 250 and also on clay.

The Catalan, current number 33 in the world, did not enjoy ‘break’ chances in a first round in which Pegula, the third world racket and first favorite in the North American contest, only needed a break in the eighth game to take the lead in the contest.

Already in the second set, she lost her service in the opening game, but managed to force the ‘tie-break’ after breaking the serve of the American when she served to win (5-5).

In sudden death and on his second chance, Pegula closed the game after one hour and 42 minutes of play. Despite everything, Badosa will rise two places to 31st place next Monday in the WTA ranking update.

For his part, Sorribes, number 106 in the world, said goodbye to Bogotá in a clash in which he started 4-0 down. Four consecutive game wins allowed her to level the duel at 4-4, but another break from Rakhimova in the last one doomed her.

Subsequently, in an erratic second set with up to nine ‘breaks’, the woman from Castellón went ahead 4-1 and even had, at 5-4, up to three set balls to extend the clash. However, the Russian tennis player resisted and prevailed in that and in the following two games to end, on her fifth occasion, the duel.
