Badosa, Raducanu … the big rises in the ranking

The 2021 season has left us with the appearance of young tennis players wanting to open a gap in the elite of the WTA circuit and rub shoulders with the great dominators of the circuit in recent years. In fact, two of these emerging players, Barbora Krejcikova and Emma Raducanu, have been able to debut their record in a Grand Slam after winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon respectively.

Precisely Krejcikova is one of the highest ranking tennis players this season since her great season, endorsed with the Roland Garros title, has allowed her to finish the year as number 5 in the ranking., although at various times during the season it rose to number 3.

The jump of Paula Badosa, who after a difficult start to the season has gone from position 70 to 8 in the ranking, its all-time high, after winning the WTA 1,000 in Indian Wells and reaching the semifinals of the WTA Finals.

Along with Krejcikova and Badosa, another of the great revelations of the season has been the young British woman Emma Raducanu. His dream season, in which he dazzled at Wimbledon before leaving and in which he won the US Open has been rewarded with the BBC’s British Sportsman of the Year award and also a meteoric rise in the WTA rankings from position 343 to 19, its all-time high.

In addition to Krejcikova, Badosa and Raducanu, other emerging tennis players have also left their mark on this 2021 season, such as the Canadian Leylah Fernandez, a finalist at the last US Open (it went from 88 to 24, its all-time high); the slovenian Tamara Zidansek (rose from 87 to 30, its all-time high); the Spanish Sara Sorribes (went from 66 to 36, reaching 34th place); and the colombian Camila Osorio, which went from position 186 to 55, becoming 53, its best historical ranking.
