Badosa now faces the BJKC: “Whenever I come to a tournament I have high expectations”

Lydia Valentín and Desirée Vila, Iberdrola ambassadors, visit the women’s tennis team before their debut in La Cartuja

MADRID, 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish tennis player Paula Badosa stated this Friday that she “always” goes to tournaments with “high expectations”, highlighting the “very good team” she forms with Sara Sorribes, Rebeka Masarova, Cristina Bucsa and Marina Bassols for the Billie Finals. Jean King Cup (BJKC), scheduled from November 7 to 12 at the La Cartuja Stadium in Seville.

“Whenever I come to a tournament I have high expectations. Every time I come I want to win it. I think we have a very good team and that we all get along very well,” Badosa said at an event organized by the energy company Iberdrola, official sponsor of Real Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET) and the Billie Jean King Cup itself.

“Iberdrola has always helped women’s sports a lot and me personally as well. It has also given me the opportunity to meet other athletes that I have greatly admired, such as meeting Lydia Valentín today,” commented the Catalan tennis player after meeting the former weightlifter and also with Desirée Vila in the capital of Seville.

The former weightlifter and the Paralympic athlete, ambassadors of Iberdrola like Badosa, gave their support to the team captained by Anabel Medina. In the BJKC, the Spanish team is in Group C and will face Canada and Poland, with the aim of being the first classified and thus obtaining access to the semifinals.

Valentín and Vila had lunch with Badosa to exchange views. Thus, the former champion described her experience as “very good” for having “been able to get to know the tennis players more closely.” “I loved her,” she added before emphasizing that women’s sport in Spain “is experiencing the best moment in history.”

“Great successes are being achieved in all sports and, thanks to companies like Iberdrola that promote it, it is easier,” added Valentín in the presence of Laura Gil, head of Sponsorships for the energy company. “At Iberdrola we are very proud to promote the Spanish tennis team and, now, we take another step by also being part of the Billie Jean King Cup,” said Gil.

“The Women’s Tennis World Cup will be quite a spectacle in La Cartuja, where we wish our team good luck, in which one of our ambassadors, Paula Badosa, will also participate. Since 2016, we have been committed to the sport practiced by women in our country and we continue to advance along those lines,” added Gil.

In a subsequent press release, Iberdrola pointed out that “it currently supports 32 national sports federations, a support that benefits 600,000 female athletes or, in other words, that already reaches two out of every three federated women in Spain.” .

“It also gives names to 33 leagues, all of them top category, and to more than 100 competitions with ‘naming right’. With this commitment, Iberdrola contributes to promoting the successes of women’s sports, favors equal opportunities and promotes healthy habits in the society from an early age,” the press release concluded.
