Badosa: “I haven’t played my best tennis, the credit goes to Sakkari”

Paula Badosa was left at the gates of what would have been her second consecutive final in Indian Wells. The current champion of the tournament could not in the semifinals with the Greek Maria Sakkari, who won 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1, and is already waiting for Iga Swiatek in the final.

In the press conference after the game, Badosa recognized that his rival was superior. “First of all, I want to congratulate Maria. She very much deserves this victory. She played a great match. I didn’t play my best tennis, but the credit for that goes to her because it was her fault that I didn’t play that well.” the Spanish explained. Asked what she would have liked to do better in her semifinal match, Badosa was very clear in her answer. “Everything”Held.

“I think I didn’t serve well, I wasn’t good with the debris either, at the back of the court I was failing too much and I wasn’t being aggressive. But she played very well. She served well, she moved very well, she played very fast and didn’t give me time to build my points.”Badosa said at a press conference, indicating that it was difficult for him to start the game. “From the beginning I didn’t have the best feelings. Sometimes you don’t have those feelings and the only option you have is to keep fighting. That’s what I’ve tried to do and that’s why I was a little more emotional (than usual) because I was angry that I couldn’t play my tennis.”

Despite his defeat, Badosa made a satisfactory balance of his participation in Indian Wells and stressed that he has played at “a very good level” and that he has shown “his competitive spirit”. “I am happy with how I have defended the title. Obviously, now I am sad and I see everything negative, but I guess tomorrow I will see it better and in a more positive way.”he said before emphasizing that his next challenge will be starting next week at the Masters 1000 in Miami.
