Bad news for Pedri: he won’t play again until 2022

“Pedri will not be available until January.” In this way, as diaphanous as forceful, the doctors communicated to Xavi Hernández the situation of the young Canarian talent after he relapsed a week ago. And it is that the priority, as AS advanced, is that the player makes ‘clean’ once and for all of his problems in the quadriceps of the left leg, that has been dragging all season, and that they have only allowed him to play a total of four games this season: the last, against Benfica on 29 September.

Since that fateful day Pedri has suffered two more relapses during his rehabilitation -the last one just over a week ago-, so the staff, led by Xavi, has decided to put a stop to this nonsense and start from scratch, making a new approach to his recovery and being the current head of the team’s physiotherapy, Carles Nogueira, who supervises his evolution.

At the club they have been able to detect a series of imbalances and mistakes by those previously responsible for the player’s recovery, which have led Pedri to a real dead end. The challenge now is to recover the brand new ‘Golden Boy’, both physically and emotionally, and that happens by not taking a step back, opting for prudence and prevention.

Hence, it has already been totally ruled out that Pedri returns this 2021. A year, in any case, with more lights than shadows for the young player, who began as the great revelation of the season, getting the Cup title, to which must be added the call of Luis Enrique’s selection to play the Eurocup and later his participation in the Olympic Games, winning the silver medal, and recently being named the best player in the under-21 world. But this streak of success has been slowed by injuries: he is paying for the enormous effort of the past year where he played 74 games in all competitions.

Now Pedri has more than a month ahead of him to feel like a footballer again and regain feelings. And it is that Xavi wants the ‘Golden Boy’ to be his great signing in the winter market.
