The Austrian skier Daniel Tschofenig won his first title in the Four Trampolines tournament this Monday, raising the ‘Golden Eagle’, in the final of the prestigious ski jumping competition in Bischofshofen (Austria).
Tschofenig won a dramatic final in Bischofshofen in a third Austrian podium of the four events ahead of Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft, who lost the title on the last jump.
The Austrians also took the final podium of the Cuatro Trampolines in the same order, in an extraordinary demonstration of strength. Kraft had been the last Austrian to win the Cuatro Trampolines, in 2015.
Tschofenig went from fifth place after the first round to first place for the day and overall with 137 and 140.5 meters. He also won in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and was third in Innsbruck and Oberstdorf.
Hörl was the one who jumped the most in each round, 140.5 and 143 meters, but a bad landing condemned him. Kraft came into the finals in the lead and seemed to have everything on track with a jump of 137 meters in the first round. Subsequently, his 137.5 meters dropped him to third place, 5.4 points behind Tschofenig.
Thus, Tschofenig, leader of the World Cup, won the Cuatro Trampolines with only 1.4 points ahead of Hörl and 4.1 over Kraft. “It’s incredible. I don’t know what to say,” Tschofenig said after the biggest success of his career, before talking about Kraft. “I feel very sorry for him, he surely would have deserved the Golden Eagle,” he concluded.
