According to a study carried out by the Spanish Soccer Research, History and Statistics Center (CIHEFE), the
Atlético de Madrid
It is the fourteenth best European club of the 21st century, with 289 points. And according to this report, the rojiblanco is the fourth best Spanish team on the continent in these 20 years of the century, surpassed by the Barcelona, which leads the ranking with 507 points, the Real Madrid, second with 482, and the Valencia, eleventh with 300 points. The fifth Spanish is the Seville, (16th, with 282 points), and sixth on Villarreal (32nd, 197 points). Something that highlights the great last decade signed by Atlético, because it must be remembered that the century began in the Second division and that he would not play in Europe until well into the first decade.
The study measures the performance of all the clubs that have competed in Europe for 20 years, from the 2000-2001 to 2019-2020 campaign, based on two criteria: that of the coefficients established by UEFA to prepare their five-year rankings and that of the results in the Champions League in the case of teams.
CIHEFE is integrated in the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), based in Germany, and the study has been prepared by one of its members, José del Olmo, who accumulates data from the most recent four five-year periods.
