Atlético de Madrid closes matchday 1 of the Liga F with a win against Granada

MADRID, 11 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Atlético de Madrid beat Granada CF 2-0 on Wednesday, with a goal from Gio Queiroz Garbelini, in the last match of Matchday 1 of the Liga F, postponed due to the commitments of the colchonero team in the preliminary round of the Women’s Champions League.

After missing out on the Champions League after not even reaching the final of the Final Four, Atlético faced this league debut with the intention of making amends. And before the first quarter of an hour had passed at the Wanda Alcalá de Henares Sports Centre, the home team scored.

Alexia Fernández and Ariadna Mingueza lost the ball in their own half and Synne Jensen set up the attack by passing to the right flank, where Rasheedat Ajibade looked up and crossed into the heart of the opponent’s area; there, quicker than the centre-backs, Gio Queiroz scored from point-blank range.

With the score in their favour, Víctor Martín Alba’s team had more chances, such as a right-footed shot from Fiamma Benítez from the edge of the area at the start of the second half. However, that shot ended in a corner and the gunpowder seemed to be damp for the Colchoneras.

Meanwhile, Granada generated little danger on Lola Gallardo’s goal and to make matters worse, they were reduced to one player after the 75th minute; this was after Isabel Álvarez was shown a direct red card, decreed by the main referee at the request of one of her linesmen.

Once again, Fiamma Benítez put the visiting goalkeeper in a difficult position from the edge of the area. Despite the fact that the right-footed shot did not go in and that Atlético were struggling to cope with their numerical superiority, the victory was sealed with Sheila Guijarro making it 2-0 in stoppage time, heading in a corner kick taken by Rosa Otermín.

This good harvest placed the red-and-white team in the group of those who won their respective debuts last weekend. Thus, Real Madrid leads the league table by having a better goal difference (+5) than FC Barcelona (+3) and SD Eibar (+2).
