Atlético de Madrid could face a UEFA sanction for the brawl between the rojiblancos and Manchester City players in the final minutes of the Champions League quarter-final second leg at the Metropolitano.
The fight broke out at the end of the game after a foul committed by Felipe, who was sent off, on Foden and with mattress player Stefan Savic involved in aggressive actions with other players, such as pulling Grealish’s hair, something that cost him the yellow card. These behaviors were transferred, with the final whistle, to the locker room tunnel, where the National Police had to intervene.
With ‘citizens’ coach Pep Guardiola accused of throwing objects after the game, he later said he “had nothing to say” in relation to the matter, but added that “everyone saw the action”.
This possible disciplinary action that UEFA could order would take place days after Atlético was sanctioned with the partial closure of the Metropolitan for “discriminatory behavior” of its fans during the first leg in Manchester.
A decision that was appealed by the rojiblanco club before the TAS, which gave the Madrid team a precautionary measure and must serve the sanction in its next European competition match, when it must leave 5,000 seats free in its stadium.
